Born in Szolnok Hungary in 1884, Emil Pap is widely considered one of the most important Hungarian born painters of the 19th and 20th centuries. As a young man, Pap moved to Budapest where he studied at The Academy. Afterwards, he specialized in society portrait commissions and genre scenes. Although he is less known in The United States, he is well known in Europe where his works appear regularly at auction.
